Great story. I've lived in Chicago for a very long time but have never been mugged. One reason, I think, is that I never take CTA -- instead I bike everywhere. Nevertheless, I'm wondering: where can I get a friend like Mr. Twisty???

p.s. I just realized that I was kind of mugged before. About nine or ten years ago I was in a station wagon in back of what were then the Stateway Gardens projects on the west side of State & 53rd. We were trying to score heroin (was an addict at the time). One of the men who was working security for the dealers stuck a short revolver through the open car window and told us to give him everything we had, which luckily amounted to little or nothing. Not sure if this can't really be classified as a true mugging, though; we were putting ourselves into an intrinsically dangerous situation.
